Accessibility Policies & Protocols

Tufts University is committed to ensuring equal access to all Information Communication Technology. As a result, a team of people from Student Accessibility Services, Tufts Technology Services, the Office of Equal Opportunity, Communications and Marketing and University Counsel have been working on developing three protocols and implementation plans for making our digital environments accessible. The first of these policies is the Procurement Protocol, which requires that any electronic information technology be checked to see if it is accessible before it is purchased. The second protocol, the Digital Accessibility Protocol, requires any information posted digitally to be compliant with the WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines and to have an accessibility statement on the page detailing where visitors can go if additional accommodations are needed. The third protocol, the Captioning Protocol, is currently being drafted but will require all front-facing videos to be captioned. These three protocols are part of Tufts University’s efforts to fulfill its value of an inclusive experience for any member of its community.
