[External] Email Tag added for Security

Tufts community members receive phishing emails routinely and most of these email scams begin with messages from an external email system. As the frequency and sophistication of these attacks is increasing, so is the risk to Tufts.
As part of our efforts to reduce phishing and other email scams, effective Tuesday, July 12, all external email messages will now receive an [External] tag in the message subject.
What you can expect to see
The subject line for external email messages will contain the [External] tag.
- Internal Message Subject Example: New Content Alert
- External Subject: [EXTERNAL] New Content Alert).
The message will also include a caution banner at the bottom (see image below) that serves as a visual reminder that even if the email looks like it is from a known sender, it originated from outside of Tufts, and it may be a phishing attempt.
Tufts cloud services (i.e., Box, DUO, Zoom, and others), that would have been flagged as [External] have been added to an allow list.
This new feature will help protect the University as well as your account from possibly being compromised.
