A new generative AI model, DeepSeek R1, has been making headlines, but before using any AI tool for university-related work, it’s important to understand the risks.

Tufts Technology Services (TTS) reminds the community to follow our Generative AI Guidelines, which emphasize:

  • Approved Tools – Use university-supported AI tools that comply with security and privacy policies.
  • Data Privacy Risks – Many AI models, including DeepSeek R1, may store or use your inputs, creating potential risks for sensitive data.
  • Intellectual Property Concerns – AI-generated content may have copyright implications or misinformation risks.
