Before Your First Day at Tufts
Create your online identity
You will receive an email with a link to a secure website. Follow the instructions and validate that the information is correct. Once you have completed this process, you will receive an email with your employee ID and network ID.
Follow the instructions to register your account, enroll in Two-Factor Authentication, and complete the New Hire Process.
Complete the following New Employee forms in eServe:
- Emergency contact
- Direct Deposit
- Federal and state tax withholding
- Federal reporting
On Your First Day
Verify your I-9
Bring the I-9 verification documents you received by email to Tufts Support Services in person by the third business day after your hire date so you can be added to payroll. There are TSS offices on all four Tufts campuses.

Set Up Your Tufts Username and Password
Your Tufts Username and Tufts Password are the gateway to a wide range of technology services and resources. These credentials will be assigned to you by Tufts Technology Services on or before your start date.
Set Up Your Computer and Phone/Voicemail
Your manager coordinated with Tufts Technology Services to have a computer and phone (with voicemail) set up for you on your first day of work. If you do not have access to this or other technology needed for your job, talk to your manager.

Set Up Your Email
Tufts University's email and calendar service for staff and faculty is Microsoft Exchange. You will receive an Exchange account when your Tufts username is created.
During Your First Week
Attend a New Hire Orientation
This full-day seminar will introduce you to the mission, culture, and values of Tufts. At orientation, you'll also learn more about the benefits available to you as a Tufts employee. For more information about orientation, contact Tufts Support Services.
Sign Up for Online Training
When you attend the new-employee orientation, you are automatically enrolled in a training series for new employees. The curriculum includes helpful resources and information about Tufts and some important documents on university policies that are pertinent to all Tufts employees.
To access this information, log in to the Tufts Learning Center, click on Browse Library and under Tufts Training choose Employee Resources. Any current employee may enroll in this training at any time.
Sign Up for a Campus Parking Permit
- Medford/Somerville: Go to the Tufts University Police Station at 419 Boston Ave, Medford or sign up online.
- Boston Health Sciences Campus: Contact Tufts Shared Services.
- Boston SMFA Campus: Contact Public Safety Administrative Services at 617-627-3692 or sign up online.
- Grafton: Go to the Tufts University Campus Police Station in the Administrative Services Building on the Grafton campus or sign up online.

Step One: Review your benefits options:
- Faculty and staff (benefits eligible)
- International employees
- Postdoctoral scholars
- ACA-eligible employees
Step Two: Make your benefits selections.
- Federal and state tax withholding
- Log on to eServe, the employee self-service portal to sign up for benefits.
