How are unused airline tickets handled?
Audience: University travelers
If tickets were purchased through The Travel Collaborative or Egencia, the remaining balance for airline tickets that are not used will be left on file to be used for one year. Balance credits are kept on file with the travel agent. Travel Collaborative will automatically update their system if a ticket is unused; Egencia will need to be called and informed if a ticket isn’t used.
If tickets were purchased from a different agency or the airline directly, the traveler will need to call the airline. If the traveler purchased the ticket independent of Travel Collaborative or Egencia and did not use the Tufts Corporate card, reimbursement will not be given. The traveler will need to contact the airline about their unused ticket policy and how reimbursement can be obtained.
Please note that regardless of the manner in which the ticket was purchased, it is likely that penalty and rebooking fees will be imposed, and may be deducted from the original value of purchase.
