Improvements to Preferred Name Process
Tufts is improving the employee experience when setting or updating a preferred name (i.e., any first or last name that is not your legal name: a nickname, common name, etc.). The new process allows you to set a preferred first and/or last name via the eServe portal, which will automatically populate the Directory and other services you may use. This feature – which was available via the Directory (directory.tufts.edu) – was limited to setting a first name only. NOTE: Changes made in eServe will not take effect until January 23rd.
To set a preferred name:
- Go to https://hrss.uit.tufts.edu/
- Log in with your Tufts username and password.
- Click the Manage Preferred Name tile.
- Enter a first AND last name (both are required), even if your preferred last name will be the same as your legal last name.
- Click Save. Changes will take effect within a couple of hours.
