Leaving Tufts and Changes to Your Benefits
If you are planning to leave Tufts for a new job, a change in your family situation, or another reason, there are a few steps you need to take and things you need to know about your benefits.
Tell your supervisor about your plans and provide him or her with a written resignation letter. Optimally, you should provide notice equal to the number of vacation weeks that you accrue per year. Your supervisor will notify Human Resources and submit termination paperwork to Tufts Support Services (TSS).
Be sure your contact information is up to date in eServe so we know where to forward your tax documents at year-end. If you have trouble accessing your account, contact Tufts Technology Services at it@tufts.edu or 617-627-3376.
Your Final Paycheck
You will receive your final paycheck on the regular pay date of the last period worked. This paycheck will also include any vacation payout you have earned. You should keep the following in mind:
- There are no 401(a) Retirement Savings Plan University-funded contributions on vacation payout earnings.
- 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan Self-Funded contributions can only be made on regular earnings, not vacation payout or earnings.
- You will have access to eServe through mid-May of the following year to obtain your W-2s.
- Contact TSS if you have questions about your paycheck.
Changes to Benefits
When you leave Tufts, your benefits will end on your last day of employment. Here are some things to consider:
Health, Dental, Vision Coverage and COBRA
Your enrollment in the Tufts-sponsored health, dental, and vision plans, will end at 11:59 p.m. on your last day of employment.
You may choose to continue your health insurance for a time through COBRA.

Retiree Health and Dental Plan Eligibility
Retiree health and dental benefits are available to eligible retirees who are age 60 or older with 5 years of eligible service, or if the sum of their age and eligible service equals 75. Retirees hired before 1/1/94 are eligible for a health plan subsidy.

You must submit eligible expenses for reimbursement within the 120-day run-out period following your benefits-termination date in which the expenses were incurred. Salary reduction ends on the day of your last paycheck.
If you are enrolled in the Health Care FSA, you may continue it through COBRA until the end of the current plan year if you have contributed more than you have been reimbursed in the year so far. However, your contributions will be on an after-tax basis.
To continue Health Care FSA coverage under COBRA, call EBPA at 888-232-3203.
Health Savings Account (HSA) for BCBS HDHP Health Plan Enrollees
