Medford Somerville Campus Parking Advisories
- Dowling Garage Boston Ave Entrance Restrictions
- Utility work in front of Dowling Garage will begin on Monday, September 28, and continue for about two weeks. The work will restrict the entrance on Boston Avenue to one-way alternating traffic, and there will be on officer on site directing cars.
- Cousens Parking Lot Closure and Restrictions
- Cousens Lot will be closed from Thursday, September 10 to Friday, September 11 while the lot is reconfigured to accommodate construction of the new Aquatics Center. On Saturday, September 12, half of Cousens Lot will reopen with a new entry configuration, and the remaining half will be permanently closed. - Cohen and Jackson Lot parking restrictions:
- Please be aware that the Cohen and Jackson parking lots will be closed on the following dates to accommodate tailgating activities:
- Friday, Sept. 18th from 1:00pm – Saturday, Sept. 19th to 6:00pm
- Friday, Oct. 9th from 1:00pm – Saturday, Oct. 10th to 6:00pm
- Friday, Oct.16th from 1:00pm – Saturday, Oct. 17th to 6:00pm
- Friday, Oct. 30th from 1:00pm – Saturday, Oct. 31st to 6:00pm
- Friday, Nov. 13th from 1:00pm – Saturday, Nov. 14th to 6:00pm
- Please be aware that the Cohen and Jackson parking lots will be closed on the following dates to accommodate tailgating activities:
- Langsam Lot parking restrictions: Wed., May 20th, 2:00 p.m. – Mon., Sept. 14th, 7:00 a.m.
- The section of the parking lot behind Miller Hall will be unavailable to accommodate necessary construction.
Grafton Campus Parking Advisories
- No Parking in Client/Visitor Spaces
- The parking team has received several reports that our community members are parking in spaces designated for visitors and clients. As a reminder, parking in visitor/client parking areas is prohibited. These spaces need to be available for clients to access our facilities and services. There will be increased parking enforcement activity to monitor the situation. Violators may be subject to ticket and/or towing at their expense.

Introducing the Jumbo Footprint Challenge
Tufts University offers a wide range of transportation benefits to make your commute cheaper and easier. That’s why Transportation and Parking is launching the Jumbo Footprint Challenge this fall.
Log your walk, bike, or MBTA ride and get entered to win prizes. Get started now by joining GoMassCommute and start earning points. The grand prize is a bicycle up to $1,000 in value.
The Challenge will highlight a new mode of transportation each month. Participants who record at least 10 trips using that mode will be entered into a monthly raffle. September is bike month. Learn more about the challenge.
Preparing for a Busy Fall
Construction of the new Aquatics Center and Pachyderm Place will bring more activity to the Medford/Somerville campus this fall. As a result, some parking areas—especially near the Cousens Lot and 80 George Street—may be busier than usual.
Community members who typically park at the Cousens Lot or Dowling Garage are encouraged to explore alternative parking locations or consider going car-free. You can review other available parking locations on the Tufts parking map.

FY26 Updates to Parking & Transportation Services and Policies
Permit Rate Changes- Medford/Somerville Campus, SMFA Campus
As part of an annual review, some parking permit rates will change starting August 1, 2025:
- Faculty/Staff monthly recurring permits: $40
- Commuter Student monthly recurring permits: $36.50
- SMFA - St. Alphonsus Lot monthly recurring permits: $75
- Residential student and overnight commuter monthly recurring permits: $73
- Daily permit rates: No change
Parking Permit Processes and Rate Changes - Grafton Campus
Starting September 1, 2025, physical parking permit decals will no longer be used. Parking permits will be managed virtually using license plates. You can purchase your new parking permit online. New parking permits can be pre-purchased starting as early as August 1, 2025.
- Additionally, parking permits will be charged monthly instead of annually and there will be a new daily parking permit, providing flexibility for parkers.
- New parking permit rates starting September 1, 2025:
- Faculty/staff monthly auto-renewing permits: $5/month
- Student monthly auto-renewing permits: $2.50/month
- Grafton daily parking permit: $2/day
- There will be new visitor parking processes for the Grafton campus. To provide greater flexibility for guest parking, visitors to campus will need to register their vehicles. Clients of the hospitals/clinics are not considered visitors in this case and will continue to park in the designated client parking areas.
- With these changes, additional resources, new lot signage will be installed in the fall and spring and updated parking maps will be provided
Enforcement Update: no parking grace period
- Parkers are expected to purchase a parking permit prior to arrival or before leaving their parked vehicle.
New Micromobility Charging Location
- Battery powered transportation devices (e.g., ebikes, escooters, etc.) are currently prohibited on campus. Starting this fall, a new space in the Lower Campus Garage will provide a safe and secure location for charging these devices. Tufts students who wish to bring ebikes or escooters to campus this fall may park and charge them at this location in the Lower Campus Garage. These devices will remain banned from indoor spaces on campus.
Electric Vehicle Charging Update
- New electric vehicle charging stations will be added to the Medford/Somerville campus during the upcoming academic year. The first new charging stations will be located in the Fletcher Lot adjacent to Blakely Hall. More information will be provided as installation nears.
FY25 Policy Updates (ARCHIVE)
Hourly Rate for EV Charging- Update on 9/27/24 - Thank you for your feedback about electric vehicle charging! The hourly charging rate has been changed to a per-KwH rate. The current rate for EV charging is $0.18 per KwH for up to four hours. After four hours the rate will change to an hourly rate of $3.25/hr.
Departmental Visitor and Event Parking Policy
Beginning July 1st, Tufts Transportation and Parking will charge departments for departmental visitor and event parking requests if the related event is a paid event, or not related to the core mission of the university. Departments requesting parking accommodations for paid events will be assessed a $5 per permit charge.

Changes to Grafton Campus Parking Permits
The current annual Grafton Campus parking permit expires on August 31st. Please purchase your Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 permit prior to September 1st. Permits will be available for purchase beginning August 1st at tufts.mpspark.com. Beginning with the September 1st permits, users selecting the payroll deduction option to purchase permits will see their annual permit fee deducted from their paychecks in the first month following purchase. In the event an employee leaves the university, changes their primary campus, or no longer has a need for parking, the annual fee will not be prorated.
MFA Garage Changes
The Museum of Fine Arts reduced the number of parking spaces accessible to Tufts University in the MFA Garage by 10% as of May 2024. Due to this decrease in spaces and the high demand for parking, MFA Garage spaces will cost $115 per month and will be made available only to Tufts staff and faculty beginning July 2024. Passes will be purchased on an automatically renewed basis only.
Cancellation of a permit at any time will make it immediately available to other individuals who may be on the MFA Garage parking wait list.
