This policy applies to all benefits-eligible staff who have completed the first three months of employment (e.g., “trial period”). Faculty and postdoctoral scholars should refer to the handbooks for their primary school or unit affiliation. Unionized employees should refer to their collective bargaining agreements.
If you are a full-time Tufts staff member, you will be offered two (2) personal days per fiscal year, July 1-June 30. If you are hired between January 1 and March 30 you will be eligible for one (1) personal day for the remainder of that fiscal year. If you are a part-time or part-year employee you will be eligible for pro-rated personal days based on your regular work schedule.
Personal days may not be utilized during the three-month trial period. Personal days may be used in partial day or full day increments. When scheduling a personal day, you are expected to give your supervisor sufficient notice.
Personal days must be used each year and do not carry over, unless otherwise required by applicable law. Unused personal days are not paid upon termination.
Individual departments are responsible for entering attendance records for non-exempt staff and time off records including sick, personal, and vacation time for all employees, exempt and non-exempt. For questions about timekeeping codes and recording, please contact Tufts Support Services at TSS@tufts.edu.
