Position Number
Audience: Department Admins
What are Position Numbers?
Position numbers are used to help plan department budgets and are needed to hire staff (except temporary workers), faculty, and Post-Docs. The compensation group in Human Resources manages the creation and de-activation of position numbers. HR Compensation also manages/maintains the position number and any information associated with it.
There are seven pieces of information needed in order to set up a position number. These are:
- Effective Date
- Job Title
- Supervisor name
- Location/Building Address
- Department name and Home Dept-ID
- Hours/FTE
- What funding source - dept id or grant

For FACULTY and POST-DOC positions, request the Position Number via the Online Position Number Request Form for Faculty/Post-Doc. HR Position Management will reach out to you directly with the position number.
