SMFA Lyft Programs

We understand that there are many challenges for students and travelling around the SMFA should not be one of them. The SMFA Lyft programs are intended to help students navigate campus life when the Tufts shuttles are not running.

All SMFA students will receive an email from Lyft at the beginning of the semester with a link to redeem their program credits. Students living in the Beacon St. Residences will receive an additional email to redeem those program credits. Students will need to create a Lyft account using their Tufts University email address.

Students using the Lyft programs will need to plan their travel accordingly and manage their Lyft program credits appropriately throughout the semester. Please plan ahead; ride with friends, walk, bike, MBTA, and use your Lyft credits when needed.

The SMFA Lyft programs are not intended to provide students with transportation to/from the Medford/Somerville campus. All SMFA students should plan for traveling between SMFA/Beacon St and the Medford/Somerville campus, using the Tufts shuttle, MBTA Green Line or another form of transportation. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, you may be eligible to request a SafeRide through TUPD. Please review the SafeRide program info.

SMFA Lyft Program

All SMFA students will receive $300 Lyft credits per semester. This amount will not roll-over from semester to semester. These credits can be used from 11:00PM – 7:00AM when the Tufts Shuttle is not running.

Credits can be used for travel directly between:

• 230 Fenway Building
• 160 St. Alphonsus St. Studios
• Emmanuel College Dining
• Beacon St. residences

Please be mindful of your pick-up location and drop off location. There is a 1.25 mile radius of each SMFA location and rides outside of that radius will be charged to your default payment method.

Beacon St. Lyft Program

Beacons St. Residents will receive $150 Lyft credit each month, this amount will not roll-over between months or from semester to semester. These credits can be used when the Tufts shuttle is not running; Monday – Friday from 11:30AM -4:00PM and 8:00PM – 11:00PM and weekends all day.

These credits can be used for travel directly between:

• 230 Fenway Building

• Beacon St. residences

How to download Lyft, set up your Lyft account and use your program credits.

• Download Lyft’s mobile app (via Google Play or App Store)
• Enter your Tufts email address
• Enter profile settings and credit card information*, which is required in order to download the application
• For individuals who already use the Lyft app you will receive an email from Lyft inviting you to the SMFA Lyft program and asking you to verify your email
• For individuals that may have created a Business Profile, please ensure you are in “Personal” mode and not “Business” mode in order to use the SMFA Lyft program credits.
• When you are selecting your payment method, the SMFA Lyft program and/or Beacon St Lyft Program will be listed as payment methods. If you do not select the correct program as your payment method your default payment method will be charged, and you will not be reimbursed.
• Please be mindful of your pick-up location and drop off location. There is a 1.25 mile radius of each SMFA location and rides outside of that radius will be charged to your default payment method.
