SMFA Transportation
Getting Around
SMFA students have full access to the Medford/Somerville campus, including the wide array of academic, community, and resource offerings. Located just over five miles northwest of Boston, the Medford/Somerville campus is home to the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
With dedicated shuttle service between campuses, we make it easy to be engaged with the full range of community, academic, and resource offerings on each. The SMFA location in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston means you'll be able to connect with the larger art community.
Tufts Shuttles
Tufts offers regular shuttle service between the Boston SMFA campus and the Medford/Somerville campus during the academic year. The SMFA shuttle schedule and more information can be found on the Tufts transportation site.
We also provide shuttle service between 230 The Fenway and the SMFA Residence Halls on Beacon Street. While the shuttle service offers students convenient transportation to and from their dorms, our beautiful, renovated brownstone residences are just a quick 10-15-minute walk from our campus.
You can access up-to-the-minute SMFA shuttle information from your mobile device. Download the Tufts Mobile app and click "Tufts Shuttles" to be connected to the shuttle's GPS tracker, which provides the shuttle's real-time location.
MBTA
Looking to be a little more environmentally friendly or just don’t want to deal with traffic? You can easily get to SMFA and explore the Boston area via several different modes of public transportation, including on the subway or "T". The SMFA campus is most easily accessed by either the Museum of Fine Arts stop on the Green Line E Train or by the Ruggles stop on the Orange Line. The SMFA Mission Hill Building (160 Saint Alphonsus Street) is most easily accessed by the Longwood Stop on the Green Line E Train or the Roxbury Crossing stop on the Orange Line.
If you prefer to take the bus, the #39 bus to the Museum of Fine Arts stop is the most direct bus route. You can also take the #8, #47, or #CT2 buses to the Ruggles stop.
