This policy applies to staff who are former or active military service members and are benefits-eligible employee who has standard hours of 17.5 hours/week or more and who are not otherwise covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
If you are a veteran of the United States Armed Forces (including certain full-time National Guard service), and you wish to participate in a Veterans’ Day or Memorial Day exercise, parade, or service in their community of residence on a date when you are scheduled to work, will be given sufficient time off to do so. If the exercise falls on a university holiday, you will be paid holiday time for the period of the absence. Otherwise, the period of absence will be unpaid unless otherwise required by applicable law or, if you choose, paid from any accrued vacation or personal time.
In rare circumstances, the university may have to deny such a request if your services are essential to securing the health and safety of the Tufts’ community and its campuses at that time.
