W-2 and Tax Statements
A W-2 is a statement that summarizes the amount of money you earned during a tax year and the money that was withheld for taxes from each employer (not per job). It will show all payments made in that tax year, based on PAY date, not worked date.
You use this document to complete your income tax return. The form is issued by your employer. Your W-2 reports your taxable wages which may be different from your gross wages.
Note that international employees may receive a 1042S instead of/in addition to a W-2. See also International Employees Tax Treaties .
Corrected W2s: there are two types of 'corrected' W2s; there is a Corrected W2 which has the word corrected across the top of a regular W2 form and is generated before Tufts sends the file to the Social Security Administration (thus SSA has only one record), and then there is a W2-C which is printed on the W2-C form and shows the original reported and the change. The W2-C occurs after the initial file has been sent to SSA (thus, SSA will have the original and the adjusted). The Corrected W2 can be used for name and SSN changes until submitted to SSA; a corrected W2 is not done for a change in address. All dollar amount changes need to be done on a W2-C.
W-2 Forms are available on eServe by January 31st, regardless of whether you consented or not (if not consented we are required to have mailed them by 1/31). Here are the complete instructions for downloading your W2 on eServe:

Current and former employees should have access to eServe. If needed, you can change your password at https://tuftstools.tufts.edu/ if you know your previous password. If you do not know your previous password, you will need to speak with IT/TTS at 617-627-3376 .
You will also need to speak with TTS for assistance with 2FA. Separated employees who enrolled in 2FA prior to leaving Tufts, should still have access as long as the same cell phone is in use. Those with a new cell phone will need to contact TTS. Separated employees who did not enroll in 2FA prior to leaving Tufts will not be required to log in to 2FA.
Make sure you are unblocking all pop ups. For information on unblocking pop ups for each browser type, click here. If you did not previously consent to receive your W-2 online, and opted for a mailed form instead, you may need to consent before you can print from eServe. If you are having technical difficulties, Tufts Technology Services (TTS), will be able to help. You can contact them at 617-627-3376 or through email at https://access.tufts.edu/get-work-done#It-request (Location/Hours). If you are still unable to pull up your W2 electronically, we can print for pick up at TSS or we can mail, but unfortunately we cannot email a W2. Please let us know if you are unable to access through eServe and need us to issue another copy.
W-2 Corrections (W-2Cs) are generally turned around in 10 business days. More complex corrections may take longer than ten days.
Employees who worked for SMFA prior to 7/1/2016 will receive a W2 from the MFA as well as from Tufts University. All requests for HR information, including W2s, prior to 7/1/16 should go to the MFA HR Dept, Bill Sweeney: 617-369-3623.
Please note that Tufts cannot provide advice or assistance in completing tax forms. The International Center has tax prep software to assist you filing your tax return with the Federal and State Governments. Additional information about the web based software (Sprintax) is located on the International Center website https://global.tufts.edu/international-center/taxes-and-social-security/tax-preparation-and-assistancesprintax. The International Center will email you an Access Code by early March. The International Center and Tufts Support Services are not in a position to offer tax advice. If you have specific tax questions or concerns, you will need to contact a tax professional (either a Certified Public Accountant or Tax Attorney). Other tools to assist you in filing your taxes are the Internal Revenue Service website (www.irs.gov) and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue website (www.mass.gov/dor).
