Tufts University has engaged Zipcar to provide additional transportation options for students, faculty, and staff.

To Join: 18 – 21 Years Old
- Complete Tufts Insurance Acknowledgement Form (pdf)
- Email form to zipcar@tufts.edu
- Complete Zipcar Application
- Have your membership card mailed to you or picked up at the Zipcar office at 87 Kilby St, Boston 02109 (default location is your billing address)
- You’ll receive an email alert. Approval to begin accessing Zipcars typically takes two to three business days (depending on your driving record)
- Once you turn 21, your membership will automatically update to a 21 or older account.

To Join: International Students

- Complete the following steps and send to zipcar@tufts.edu and records@zipcar.com:
- Zipcar Driver Declaration
- Copy of your driver’s license
- Copy of your photo page of your passport
Insurance/Liability
- Tufts University does not, under any circumstances, provide any liability or physical damage insurance coverage for Tufts University students or employees who rent from Zipcar for personal use.
- Because the insurance limits for members under 21 years of age are lower than the insurance provided for members 21 years of age and older (insurance policy FAQs), we strongly suggest you and/or your parent/guardian check with your private auto insurance carrier to see if your current policy provides any additional protection and/or to see if you can purchase additional protection.
Departmental Accounts
- A Departmental Account is a Zipcar account in which charges are billed directly to your department, and acts as an umbrella account with one university credit card on file. Drivers for the department sign up under the Departmental Account in which the fees go to the account and not the individual driver.
- Email our Zipcar representative Chris Markey at cmarkey@zipcar.com and provide the name of the account. Zipcar will correspond with the department on the setup process.
- All drivers under your account will need to first become a member of Zipcar. Be sure to use the correct link on the website: students 18 – 20 years of age, students 21 and older, and faculty/staff.
- Please note that students under 21 will need to fill out the waiver form required by Tufts: Zipcar Insurance Form (pdf) This form requires a parent’s signature
- Once drivers are approved, reach back out to Chris Markey at cmarkey@zipcar.com to have the drivers placed under your department’s account.
