Zipcar at Tufts

With Zipcar on campus, it's easy to live car-free. Zipcar provides a self-service, on-demand car-sharing program at Tufts University. To use it, simply register as a member, reserve a car online or by phone, use your Zipcar app to enter the vehicle, and drive away. Return the car to the same location where you picked it up.  

With this service, users can reserve cars as needed for short periods—ranging from a few hours to a full day—at affordable rates.

Locations

There are Zipcars available at various locations around Tufts. Zipcar offers more than 9,000 vehicles in urban areas and college campuses throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. 

Rates for Tufts Members

• Join for only $35, with no application fee. 
• Gas, insurance, roadside assistance, and up to 180 miles per day are included in the hourly and daily Zipcar rates.

Membership Requirements

To be eligible to become a Zipcar member, you must meet the following requirements: 

• Age 18 to 20 
  • Have a valid driver's license for at least one year 
  • Have no incidents on your driving record 
• Age 21 and older 
  • Have a valid driver's license for at least one year 
  • Have had no more than two incidents (moving violations or accidents) in the past three years and no more than one incident in the past 18 months 
  • Have had no major violations in the past three years 
  • Have had no alcohol- or drug-related violations in the past seven years 

Membership includes: 

• Secondary insurance for all trips 
• Gas included with every trip 
• Maintenance and 24/7 roadside assistance 
• Discounted on-campus driving rate 
• No application fee 
• 180 miles per day ($0.67 per mile after that) 

Insurance & Liability 

Tufts University does not, under any circumstances, provide any liability or physical damage insurance coverage for Tufts University for students or employees who rent from Zipcar for personal use. 

We strongly suggest you and/or your parent/guardian check with your private auto insurance carrier to see if your current policy provides any additional protection and/or to see if you can purchase additional protection. 

Business & Departmental Accounts

A Business Account is a Zipcar account in which charges are billed directly to your department and acts as an umbrella account with one university credit card on file. Drivers for the department sign up under the Departmental Account in which the fees go to the account and not the individual driver. 

Email our Zipcar representative Jason Kudlock jkudlock@zipcar.com and provide the name of the account. Zipcar will correspond with the department on the setup process. 

All drivers under your Business Account must first become Zipcar members. Membership is just $50 per driver per year. Driving rates start at $12/hour and $82/day. When choosing your plan, remember that membership includes:

• Maintenance and 24/7 roadside assistance 
• 200 miles per day ($0.67 per mile after that) 
• Sustainable transport for your entire organization 
• Add drivers to your account for just $50/year
