Zoom Setting Updates Including Default Passwords

Tufts Technology Services (TTS) implemented the following setting changes effective July 19, 2023. As part of our efforts continuously improve and update our services, these changes provide ensure security when using Zoom and provide an enhanced user experience.
The two default setting changes include:
- Default Zoom Passwords to Numeric Only
- Enhanced meeting management for "authorized schedulers" in Zoom
Default Zoom Passwords to Numeric Only
Tufts has changed the default settings on Zoom passwords to be numeric only. This change not only enhances our Zoom security (minimizing the ability for Zoom bombing) but it also enables easier support for Zoom Rooms when joining meetings or webinars.
Zoom will continue to automatically add a password to your meetings when you schedule them. The password will be a random numeric password. Users can leave the password as is or edit but with the parameters:
- The passcode cannot contain any letters or consecutive characters (i.e., 12345, 11111, etc.)
- The passcode must be a minimum of 6 digits
NOTE: Any meetings scheduled prior to July 19 that you set an alphanumeric passcode for will continue to work. However, if you go in and edit that meeting, it will default the passcode to numeric only so you may need to re-share the link with attendees.
Enhanced meeting management for "authorized schedulers" in Zoom
Zoom users have the ability to authorize others to schedule meetings on their behalf. Previously, only the primary Zoom account who set up the meeting was able to access recordings and reports (chat). This setting change enables users to allow "authorized schedulers" to also manage Cloud Recordings (that they scheduled for the user, not all their cloud recordings) and manage Reports (meeting, attendance, etc.) This enables more of a self-service for "authorized users" eliminating the need to request access to recordings and reports.
